5 Yoga Poses for Taurus
Apr 22, 2026Stability, Nourishment, and the Wisdom Within
Taurus is the bull, the second sign of the zodiac, associated with stabilizing the new life that Aries initiates.
What Aries begins through action and inspiration, Taurus sustains through embodiment. It gives form to inspiration, roots new growth into the Earth, and teaches the value of steadiness over force. This is the stage of the cycle where life becomes tangible.
Earth in the zodiac connects to form, fertility, endurance, and the ability to cultivate material outcomes in the physical plane. As the fixed earth sign, Taurus represents grounded strength, receptivity, and the beauty of the Earth.
Taurus season is connected to goddess energy: the primordial feminine, Mother Earth, and the nourishing matrix from which life emerges. In Taurus, strength, beauty, and softness comingle. Creation happens through receptivity, rhythm, and sustained presence.
When Taurus energy is strong, the body may long for peace, beauty, nourishment, and meaningful simplicity. At times, this energy can also express as stagnation, thirst for or resentment of power, resistance to change, or tension held in the jaw, neck, and throat. With Taurus, the key is to listen deeply within and anchor your experience in the physical now moment.
How Taurus Shows Up in the Body
Taurus rules the throat, jaw, lower brain, and inner ear.
The throat is one of the most vital gateways in the body. It carries the pathways for breath, nourishment, blood, and lymph. It is also the seat of inner hearing: the place where we can listen for the silent voice of the heart.
In AstroYoga, Taurus is deeply connected to this quality of inner listening. The lower brain governs foundational processes of regulation and survival, sending messages from subconsciousness to the body. Taurus in this capacity bridges the messages imprinted on the body from both the higher consciousness of the heart and the subconscious programming of the passive mind.
Taurus is also linked to the heart chakra, the subtle center from which deeper truth is felt. When you listen inward during Taurus season, you practice your sense of inner knowing–making sure you are living your heart’s truth as a manifest reality in your life.
When Taurus energy is supported, you may feel calm, rooted, nourished, and aligned with your values. When it is unsupported, you may notice rigidity, jaw tension, inertia, difficulty finding beauty and inner power, or the inability to discern your inner guidance.
The following five practices are designed to support Taurus energy so you find grounding, inner connection, beauty, and inner power.
-
Gomukhasana, Cow Face Pose

This posture is excellent for the Taurus-ruled neck, and highlights the physical connection between the throat and the pelvis.
Sit and cross your right leg over your left, so the knees are stacked. Then pat yourself on your back with your right hand. Either use your left hand to hold the elbow up, or reach around the back and clasp your right fingers in your left for a bind. Hold and breathe, and then repeat on the other side.
2. Ustrasana, Camel Pose
Camel pose opens the front throat, chest, and heart space.
Kneel with knees hip-wideth apart. Place the hands to the low back or heels and lift the sternum upward. Allow the throat to open gradually rather than collapsing backward.
If Taurus is unbalanced in the body, energy calcifies in the jaw, throat, and upper chest. Camel pose creates spaciousness through these regions while awakening inner courage. Because Taurus is linked with the heart chakra, this posture helps reconnect the voice with the heart’s intelligence. Breathe deploy in this posture.
3. Sarvangasana, Shoulder Stand

Shoulder stand nourishes the Taurus-ruled throat while supporting circulation, lymphatic return, and endocrine balance. Notably, the thyroid and parathyroid are stimulated by this posture.
Before you begin the posture, make sure your weight rests in your shoulders in this posture, not your neck vertebrae. Lift the legs upward, supporting the back with your hands. Keep the head still and gaze steady. If desired, you can support your hips with a pillow or block. After some time, if desired, move the legs, taking padmasana or exploring gentle movement.
4. Halasana, Plow Pose

Plow pose is a deeply Taurian posture: grounding, inward, and connected to cultivation. From shoulderstand, lower the legs overhead and rest them on the floor behind you. You can support yourself with props if desired.
This shape compresses and tones the throat and neck region while drawing awareness inward. It quiets external stimulation and invites deeper listening. Plow pose is often followed by ear-pressure pose (like plow, but with the knees bent by the ears), if this is in your practice, include it here.
5. Matsyasana, Fish Pose

Fish pose brings expansion to the throat and upper chest, while supporting the nervous system. It is the ideal following posture to shoulder stand and plow pose, as it inverses the spinal position and completes the stimulation of the thyroid and parathyroid.
Lie on your back with crossed legs (padmasana) or your legs extended. Arch the chest upward and open the throat, resting the crown of your head on the mat. If desired, place a bolster or block under the shoulders to support the posture. In this posture, the jaw is slack but the lips are closed. Breathe deeply.
Final Reflection
Taurus teaches that what is most valuable can be found in your heart, the earth, and your body.
This is a season of listening inward, celebrating the body/Earth, and building a life rooted in beauty rather than urgency. THe wisdom you seek in life comes quietly through intuition, the voice that speaks from the heart. When aligned, Taurus energy brings calm strength, embodied beauty, devotion, and the power to sustain what truly matters. Slow down enough to hear what your heart is whispering.
